Veterinary Evidence Today is being held in the historic city of Edinburgh in Scotland.

What is the EBVM Network?

The EBVM Network is an international collective of people who are interested in supporting and furthering evidence-based veterinary practice. Joining the Network is a great way to develop professional relationships and keep up with advances in clinical practice.

Will I receive a certificate for attending the conference?

Yes, after the conference if you contact a digital certificate will be sent to you.

Can only Network Members attend?

No! This event is opened to everyone who has an interest in EBVM.

What do I need to bring with me?

We recommend that you bring a pen and paper, or a laptop/tablet for taking notes to the conference. Also it’s wise to bring some business cards for any new contacts you may make!

Is there an exhibition at the conference?

Yes, the exhibition will be in the Ballroom – details of who will be exhibiting will be released later in the year.

What is the dress code?

During the day it is business casual, however the Evidence Awards are black tie.

Is food provided throughout the conference?

Yes, a daily sandwich lunch will be provided. There will also be refreshments throughout the day.

There will be a light buffet at Sceptical Vets and there will be a 3 course meal at the Evidence Awards.

What do I do if I have and dietary/disability requirements?

Can I bring guests?

You cannot bring guests into the conference unless they have a full conference ticket. If you wish to bring accompanying guests to the social events please email

Are there any official tours for accompanying guests to do during the conference?

No, however if you visit our about Edinburgh page you will see some of the exciting activities you can do!

Are there any child minding services at the conference?

No, there is no childcare at the conference.

What is the weather like it Scotland?

In November it’s cold! There is an average temperature of 6 degrees Celsius. There is also a high chance of rain so bring an umbrella!


How do I apply to speak at the conference?

The call for speakers has now ended.

I have not heard the result my application to speak, who do I contact?

If my abstract is accepted but I can no longer attend the conference, can I send someone to present in my place?

I have been accepted! Do I have purchase my own ticket?

Yes, you will need to purchase your own ticket to the conference. You can purchase one here.


How should I bring my presentation to the conference?

Please bring the presentation on on a USB stick.

What aspect ratio should the Powerpoint be in?

Please use an on screen presentation 16:9 aspect ratio.

Is there a speaker discount?

Unfortunately there is not a discount for speakers.

What do I do when I arrive?

Please register at the speaker reception, you will receive a speaker pack with full detailed instructions.

You will need to go to the speaker pre-presentation room to test your presentation. There will be a presentation technician in there who will make sure that your presentation is in the correct format. It is very important that you test your presentation.

What time should I arrive at my session?

Please arrive 10 minutes before your session. There will be a laptop for your to use.

How many people will be in my session?

We will not be pre-registering delegates to sessions, so we are unable to know how many will be in each session. The rooms hold between 20 and 90 people.

Will the session be recorded?

Yes each session will be recorded. Please make sure you speak clearly into the microphone, and ensure delegates are doing the same during the Q&A.

Can I use videos in my presentation?

Yes, you can. They must be embedded into the presentation and cannot be links.

The videos must be yours to use. We will be publishing the material on YouTube after the conference so you must have videos that are not under copyright.

Can we have pictures in the presentations?

Yes, but these must be yours to use. We will be publishing the material on YouTube after the conference so you must have images that are not under copyright.

My presentation isn’t working!

There will be a volunteer in the room, please alert them and they will get an AV technician.

How do I get my poster to the conference?

You must bring your poster yourself. Please arrive on time for the first day of the conference and when you register please give you poster in at reception.

What size does my poster need to be?

Posters need to be portrait and A0 size.

When do I present my poster?

There will be a poster luncheon on the the 2nd, you must be standing with your poster for the lunch break so you can speak to other delegates about your poster. They will then vote for their favourite and prizes will be announced at the Evidence Awards.

I want to keep my poster!

Please stay until the end of the conference and then you can take down your poster. If you need to leave earlier please email to arrange it.


What can I expect from the conference?

Veterinary Evidence Today will feature international veterinary and human health leaders from practice and academia. There will be a mix of plenaries, parallels and interactive workshop sessions.

The preliminary programme will be available later in 2016.

What are wet labs?

Wet labs are interactive workshops. They are designed to give delegates a more hands on experience of treatments.

What are the opening times of the conference?

We expect the conference to run from 8.30am – 5pm, and from 9am – 3pm on the final day. We strongly advise against booking any travel until the timetable is confirmed.

When are the poster prizes being given?

There is a Lunchtime Poster Reception on the 2nd, and the prizes will be given at the Evidence Awards later that evening.

I am part of a Knowledge Group, will there be time for us to meet?

Yes, from 3.30 – 5pm on the 3rd there will be free time for all Knowledge Groups to meet. Please email to book a room.

How much are conference tickets?

A 1 day ticket is £200 (inc VAT)

A 3 day ticket which includes the 2 social events is £550 (inc VAT)

Can I buy a ticket at the conference?

No, all tickets must be pre-purchased.

I’ve decided I don’t want to attend the conference, how do I get a refund?

Cancellations must be received by email or post.

Cancellations received up to and including 1st September 2016: 50% refund.

Cancellations received between 2nd September and up to and including 1st October: 25% refund.

Cancellations received after 2nd October: 0% refund.

Several of my colleagues and I are registering for the conference. Is there a special group rate?

No, unfortunately we are not offering a group rate.

I only plan on attending one day of the conference. Can I pay for one day only?

Yes, day tickets are available for a reduced price of £200 (inc VAT). You can buy them here.

I’ve booked a day ticket, can I attend other days?

No, you will only be allowed entry on the day you purchased your ticket for. Please make sure that you purchase the correct day.

Can I purchase a 3 day ticket and then different people attend each day?

No, as you will need to have individual badges.

Do the tickets include entrance into the social events?

The 3 day tickets does include entry into Sceptical Vets and the Evidence Awards.

However the 1 day tickets do not, so you will need to purchase them separately.

Additional tickets for the social events can be purchased for accompanying guests.

What are the social events?

The 1st November is Sceptical Vets, a debate held in Ghillie Dhu with a light buffet.

The 2nd November is the Evidence Awards, a glamorous black-tie event with a 3 course meal.

Do I need to know how to Ceilidh dance?

No you don’t! There will be a ‘caller’ to let you know what moves to do – don’t worry everyone will be new to it too. If you don’t want to dance, then there is a separate bar area to socialise in.

Sceptical Vets sounds a bit rowdy!

We hope it will inspire some great debate, but the main aim of the evening is to have fun and to network!

What time do the social events start and end?

Sceptical Vets starts at 6.30 and should end around 11pm (though you can leave earlier!).

The Evidence Awards start at 6.30 and end at midnight.

These timings are TBC.

Will there be time to go and change before the social events?

There will be time to change before the Evidence Awards. There may be time to change before Sceptical Vets.
